Character Creation Rules - All Preeminences and Vices must be justified and appropriate to your character concept. - The "Affection" resource does not have to be an actual Hallowed Affection, it can be any mortal underling who is capable of aiding your character with downtime actions. - Unusual Preeminences, Vices or Transgressions must be approved by the StoryGuide. - All new characters start with 3 Archetypes and must have Reckoned within the past 6 months. - Special characters (Affections, Nephilim, older Fallen) must be approved on a case-by-case basis. - More to come. Extra Points for Character Creation Extra Devoted Zeal for character development may be obtained at any time during gameplay by the submission of the following: - A character background (minimum 1/2 page, max 2 pages), which must include: what you were in life (shopkeeper, student, police officer, biker, whatever), a description of the traumatic event that led to your Reckoning, your former human name and mention of any family/friends that are still around. If you want specific "plot hooks" for your character, this is the place to put them. This is worth 3 Zeal. - A game information package including the following: the name your character uses among the Fallen; your Embodiment (unless you have Inner Silence and try to keep this secret); a brief description for the webpage (not a physical description, rather a short blurb of what would be easily known about your character... not to exceed 100 words max); and a description of all your Affections (including Chosen Weapon and your Domus), at most a couple sentences for each, describing who (or what or where) they are, and the reason you have chosen to Hallow them as Affections. This is worth 3 Zeal. - A confirmed Congregation (or Court Position) to which your character belongs. Obviously, most characters will not have this at the beginning of the game, but they will receive the Devoted Zeal as soon as they join one in gameplay. The starting Court characters will get this automatically. This is worth 3 Zeal. - A series of major connections to other PCs in the game. For each significant connection (siblings, lovers, intense rivalry, bitter enemies, strong friendship, etc) you will receive 1 Zeal if the other character is within your own Congregation, or 2 Zeal if the other character is outside your Congregation. Example: Gabriel and Hanahel are within the same Choir. They are siblings (each thus gets 1 point). Gabriel also has a serious hatred of Nathusiel, an Infernal (obviously NOT in his Choir, so Gabriel gets another 2 points). For minor connections (friends, allies, knew each other in College, worked at the same MacDonald's, roommates), you will receive 1 Zeal only if the other character is outside your Congregation. You must write out your list of connections, describing who they are and why the connection exists. These must be agreed upon by both players, obviously, and can be gained or altered during gameplay. This is worth a maximum of 4 Zeal. Devoted Zeal Awards During Gameplay Each month, every character in the game who was active in any way (including downtime submissions, side scenes, email scenes, etc) will receive 1 Devoted Zeal. Every character who attended that month's regular game session will receive a second Devoted Zeal. Finally, a limited number of Drama Points will be given out based on especially noteworthy dramatic roleplaying at the discretion of the StoryGuide. This means most players will receive 2 Zeal, while some may get as many as 3. All active characters will get at least 1. Devoted Zeal may be spent on the following: New Archetypes - Your first, second and third Archetypes in a given set (Body, Mind or Soul) costs 10 Devoted Zeal. Your fourth, fifth and sixth Archetypes cost 15, and so on. Transgressions - Simple Transgressions cost 1 Devoted Zeal, while Potent Transgressions cost 5. Investment - You may Invest Devoted Zeal into certain Affections in order to give them bonuses. You may not Invest more Devoted Zeal in an Affection than you have ranks of Hallow. The most common example is the purchase of Maneuvers for a Chosen Weapon. |
